What A Community Did To Honor A Deceased Man Is Shocking, But Oddly Sweet

Renato García was a hero and a helpful presence to his community in Puerto Rico. He was always there to lend a hand when people needed him. When he passed away earlier this month, the loss shook the community. As a way of paying tribute to García’s heroic legacy at his wake, the community dressed him up as The Green Lantern, his favorite comic book superhero.

During the last few weeks of his life, García occasionally lived up to his “superhero” status by dressing up as the Green Lantern. He supposedly found the costume in a garbage can and decided to embody his favorite comic book hero.

The idea to dress García as the Green Lantern was the community’s idea. “I was going to have a regular funeral for him, but the neighbors and the community had this idea,” said García’s sister Milagros. “I know he would have liked it.”

That must have been one heck of a funeral. Our thoughts and prayers are with the García family and their community during this time of loss.
