Two Helpless Cubs Would"ve Been Trampled To Death If It Weren"t For A Brave Lioness

This looks a lot like the iconic scene from The Lion King, but this has a much happier outcome. A lioness named Jicho saved her cubs from a buffalo stampede. The shocking reality of a stampede in the Masai Mara region of Kenya almost killing her children caused the beautiful creature to leap into action, as only the best mother would.

The cubs barely had the strength to make it through the water and away from the stampeding herd. They just couldn

When she saw the stampede coming down a river, Jicho easily leapt up onto an island for safety. Her two young cubs, however, were not big or strong enough to do the same.

It was not looking good as the buffalo bore down on the two crying cubs, who were clearly aware of the danger they were in. On the higher ground, Jicho communicated with them via growl. She finally leaned down to scoop up her cubs, bringing them to safety.

Thanks to Jicho’s intervention, her two cubs made it to safety. They were a bit muddy, but it was a small price to pay for getting out of the way of the herd. The sequence was shot by photographers Laurent Renaud and Dominique Haution. It is the policy of most nature photographers and researchers to not intervene with what happens in nature, in case you were wondering why neither stepped in. Plus, this situation was especially dangerous, and could have caused them harm, too.
