Most People Would Just See Scrap Metal, But This Man Sees Potential For Beauty

When Carolina Breeze’s father lost his job, she was understandably concerned. Based out of Tel Aviv, Carolina’s dad was always the creative sort. He was an ambidextrous artist, carver of wooden sculptures, and even a tattoo artist for some time. Faced with newfound unemployment, his natural reaction was to search for a new project.

Last year, Carolina recounts, her father showed her a piece of jewelry he created. She was amazed for two reasons. First, her father had no training in making jewelry. Second, he said the piece was made using scrap metal and junk that had simply been lying around.

Carolina’s dad now operates an Etsy shop selling the one-of-a-kind pieces. He is entirely self-taught when it comes to metal-working, relying on his natural inclinations alone–and probably a lot of practice. His pieces include earrings, bracelets, pendants, and hair pins, each made from recycled metals and pieces of discarded jewelry. For example, one uses beads from an old piece of Carolina’s (which she deems “ugly”), and a copper wire from an old radio.

With the shop now full of an ever-changing selection of jewelry, Carolina and her dad have fun designing all kinds of things. They draw from different styles and artistic traditions, including Celtic and Native American motifs, mythology, and ancient cultures.
