Even More Huge Craters Formed Russia And Scientists Still Don"t Know Why

Crazy stuff happens all around the world, you just might not know about it (or at least not right away). Take last July for example. Large, mysterious craters began forming in Siberia, and recent satellite imagery suggests that they may be more up there than we originally thought.

This has, understandably, got scientists all jacked up. However, it also raises a lot of questions by concerned locals regarding the nature of these craters and how they are formed. Could it pose a danger to the people living in the area?

Scientists are currently aware of 4 large craters (and 12 smaller ones) in the wilderness of Northern Russia. Most people believe, though, that there could be 15+ more.

The biggest problem isn’t even finding the existing craters, it’s predicting when the next one is going to occur. So far, there’s been very little study of the craters. We don’t know how they are formed or where they could form next.

The biggest problem isn

The craters pose a danger to people living in Siberia. One of these holes could form underneath a school or a town’s water supply.

More study is needed, but one theory suggested by scientists is that due natural gas trapped in the ground by permafrost, pressure builds underground. That pressure builds until it eventually breaks open the Earth’s surface.

If the tundra-like temperatures and snow tigers didn’t give you enough reason not to go to Siberia, maybe the giant, random holes in the planet will?
