One Man Made A Heart-Wrenching Discovery In The Swamps Of Louisiana You MUST See

Seph Lawless’ photography has been called many variations of creepy and erie, but with good reason: it usually is. Earlier this year, Lawless was on assignment in Louisiana capturing the legacy of Hurricane Katrina 10 years later. During his exploration, he made a startlingly creepy discovery.

Somewhere in Louisiana, between the gators and the shifting swamps, was an old, completely abandoned pet cemetery. While Lawless has not revealed the location of the cemetery, the pictures he took manage to capture the love that these owners had for their pets all those years ago.

The cemetery has been abandoned for at least the last 30 years, according to newspaper records.

Since then, the cemetery has sat abandoned, and nature is slowly reclaiming it.

At one time, the only structure on the property stood here. It has long since collapsed, leaving behind a twisting network of vines in the shape of the former house.

While he was photographing the pet cemetery, Lawless says he was “overwhelmed by seeing how much owners loved their pets.”

This grave in particular moved Lawless. The owner scattered some of his dog’s favorite kibble on the gravestone, where it has sat untouched for 30 years.

As a way of paying tribute to the pets buried here and their former owners, Lawless has compiled the photos into an ebook that he is releasing through his website.

The introduction to the book reads like this: “One thing most humans have in common is an insatiable love for animals, especially pets. We show this love and admiration for pets in many ways during their lives that are spent with us and some of us even show it after they die.”

“Death is mysterious and burial makes it that much more cryptic and absurd. The images are edited in loving memory of the all the animals buried here. We will remember them not only because this pet cemetery is dark and obscure but because its magical realism is completely out of this world.”
