Whilst out on an animal rescue mission, the good people of the UK’s Wildlife Aid Foundation stumbled upon this little chap who was happily playing some music in the woods on his flute. Then, they looked closer and realized that the squirrel’s flute was in fact just a bone.
There goes my dream of a full orchestra made up entirely of squirrels…but at least this was still so cute.

Wild animals need calcium just like us, and one way of absorbing it is to chew on bones. The squirrel instinctively knows how much it needs and it keeps its diet balanced by doing this from time to time. This is actually very common behavior to all types of species in the animal kingdom, even herbivores.
Chewing on a bone also helps to wear down their teeth, which continuously grow throughout their lives. If they didn’t keep their teeth in good condition, they would overgrow and the squirrel would be unable to eat at all.
