3-D printing has taken the world by storm, making it possible to quickly turn a design on a computer into a tangible object. The new technology has been used to print everything from food to instruments.
But possibly one of the most amazing things that 3-D printing has done is breathe new life into one bubbly pup named Derby. Derby was born with deformities in both of his front legs, which made it difficult for him to get from one room to another, let alone live a happy, playful doggy life. When she adopted him, Tara Anderson wanted to do something great for her new pup. In collaboration with 3DSystems, a set of prosthetics was made using a 3-D printer; needless to say, they’ve completely changed his life.

The really cool thing about printing the prosthetics with a 3-D printer rather than any other method, is that the design is already saved into the computer and ready to go when Derby is ready to adjust to taller or bigger prosthetics. This way, derby will be able to run and jump around for the rest of his life! Thanks, science, for making this deserving canine’s life better.
