Someone Invented An Insanely Creepy Way To Teach Any Child The Alphabet

Edward Gorey was an author and illustrator known for his offbeat style and wit, often wrapped in dark humor. In his book The Gashlycrumb Tinies for instance, he exhibits entire English alphabet, juxtaposing each letter with a horrible, yet mundane death of a child. It’s morbid, but funny, sarcastic and yet educational. I suppose it’s the perfect read for a kid who is just learning to read, but for some reason also has a creepily mature grasp of mortality.

You can learn all about the life and career of Edward Gorey at his website or at The Edward Gory House in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. You can also buy The Gashlycrumb Tinies online here.
