Fireplaces are often thought of as a luxury item. They’re not in every household and are rarely found in apartments. Just because they’re hard to find, though, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your very own fireplace. This family proved that with a little elbow grease, you can create your own luxury living arrangement, too.
Their living room needed something different, something to make it feel more like a home. There was a large, undecorated area that was seemingly made for a fireplace. Sure, it was going to involve a lot of work, but once they finished, everyone knew it would be well worth the effort.
Here’s the start of the project – a blank wall, a couple holes, and a wooden frame.
The next step was to begin the construction of the supports for the area where the electric fireplace would live, as well as where the sheet rock would go.
The electric fireplace was installed.
Next, it was time to install the sheet rock, which would serve as the foundation for the hearth.
Everything started coming together when they added beautiful white-gray stones to the hearth.
Now that the the fireplace was finished, there was still one thing left to do to really finish the room.
The dark hardwood flooring! It provides the perfect contrast to the light stone on the hearth.

While it’s not a wood-burning fireplace, I think I might actually prefer this! No messy wood to haul in during the winter and all you have to do is push a button to make it start. What a great place to gather the whole family! Can we come over?
