Um… What Are These Alien Look-Alikes Doing On This Beach? So Gross.

These creatures might not actually be aliens, but the Velella velella–or “by the wind surfers”– that have been washing up on California beaches are quite alarming. (With a name like that, we can’t be sure they’re not aliens.) It’s not just how they look, but how many of them are that might make you run for the hills. The jellyfish-like creatures are washing ashore by the thousands and are covering many of the beaches that make up the West Coast of North America.

GET BACK! YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THESE BEASTS ARE CAPABLE OF!

GET BACK! YOU DON

That’s not so bad!

Oh, my…

Oh, my...

Apparently, these creatures have been beach-bound after a change in the winds and currents that typically take them out to sea.

“This is the Velella, a small free floating hydrozoan. It’s currently the only known species in the genus.”

I’m still not COMPLETELY convinced they’re not aliens. Has anyone tried asking them if they’re aliens? I think I read that if you ask an alien if they’re an alien, they’re legally obligated to tell you the truth. Something like that.
