This Loving Couple Built The Home Of Their Dreams...And Ours.

Foy and Louisa Brown live in what might be called the greatest house ever. No, it’s not a mansion up on a hill, or a 1,000 acre ranch on the prairie. They live in a floating cottage in Maine, and it is amazing. That’s right, it’s floating.

It took the Brown’s 10 years to build their cottage, which was completed in 2010. The original plan had been to rent the cottage out to tourists, but it was too beautiful. They decided to live there instead. It was probably the best decision they every made. I mean look at this place, who wouldn’t want to live here?!

Looks so peaceful.

That’s a neighborhood I’d like to live in.

From May until November, the Brown’s keep their cottage anchored in the middle of the bay.

It then becomes their own little private island of solitude.

There isn’t even much cell phone reception.

“There’s no TV, no one to bother you—and no property taxes or permits,” said Foy.

“When you’re in your house, you think of all the things you need to do,” said Louisa. “Out here, you can just relax.”

A 55 gallon water tank supplies the shower, kitchen, and bathroom.

Propane tanks provide power for the fridge, and stove.

I want that view.

How about waking up, and having that be the first thing you see?

The cottage is anchored when it’s out in the bay. Don’t want it floating away.

That’s a pretty nice kitchen for such a small space.

The Brown’s each take small boats to work while they’re living at the cottage.

They have rain barrels to collect water for the plants.

Relaxation at its finest.

The cottage is 240 square feet total.

Every Sunday the Brown’s have a cookout. It’s a tradition.

Serenity.

When the weather gets cold in November the Brown’s head back to shore, and start dreaming of summer when they can have their private island back.
